I have come across the diminutives of some of the descriptions that we have learnt i.e. gordito/a (chubby) feito/a (plain) and calvito (thin on top). These terms seem more polite. Are they used much in Spain?
Curiously guapito/a which was also listed seems to mean *very* rather than *fairly* beautiful. Is that correct?
¡Gracias, Peter! Yes, the diminutives are used generally in Spanish. And they are certainly used to be more polite, almost as euphemisms. I don´t think the diminutive in ´guapito´ is different to the others but it´s probably not used as much, as the word ´guapo´ is perceived as a positive attribute with therefore no need to resort to euphemisms.
