Feliz Navidad 2017

A surprising and moving short film/ad by the famous Spanish turron brand, 'El Almendro'.

Everybody remembers the sticky tune of ´El Almendro´ Christmas adverts, always about that emigrated son or brother coming home for Christmas: "Vuelve, a casa vuelve, por Navidad..."

This advert is slightly different but it retains the idea of the family reunion. A bit extravagant but with a heartwarming central idea as its focus.

We submitted various people to a lie detector

To know if they liked their last Christmas present

Esto es lo que pasó
This is what happened

"Adelante, por favor"
"Come in, please" ('Adelante' is not a verb. It literally means 'forward, ahead' but it is also used as a way to invite someone to come into a room or to encourage someone to start something: 'go ahead')

"Tome asiento"
"Take a seat"

"¿Me deja la mano izquierda, por favor?"
"Could you lend me your left hand, please?"

"Vamos a comenzar la prueba"
"We are going to start the test"

"Es usted Irene Escudero"
"You are Irene Escudero"

"Sí"

"Es ustred Pedro Cerdeño"
"You are Pedro Cerdeño"

"Sí"

"¿Qué es esto?
"What is this?"

"Pues un regalo de mi cuñada de las fiestas pasadas"
"Well, a gift from my sister in law from last year´s (Christmas)"

"Correcto"

"¿Conoce este objeto?"
"Do you know this object?"

"Sí, es mío. Es mi marco de fotos"
"yes, it´s mine. It´s my photo frame"

"Un disco de música gallega que me regaló mi suegra"
"A Galician music cd that my mother in law gave me (as a gift)"

"¿Le gustó el regalo?"
"Did you like the present?"

"Sí, sí, sí. Me lo regaló pero..."
"Yes, yes, yes. She gave it to me (as a gift) but..."

"El polígrafo dice que miente"
"The lie detector says you are lying"

"Bueno, está bien. Es un libro entretenido. Sacas ideas buenas"
"Well, it´s OK. It´s an entertaining book. You get good ideas out of it"

"Insisto. ¿Le gustó el regalo?"
"I insist. Did you like the present?"

"Si, la uso. Tomo café cada día..."
"Yes, I use it. I have coffee every day..."

"No me gustó nada. Lo tuve que dejar a mitad"
"I didn´t like it at all. I had to leave it halfway"

"Correcto"

"No me gusta"
"I don´t like it"

"Como regalo... tampoco me gusta mucho"
"As a present... I don´t like it that much really"

"Muy bien"

"Ahora le voy a hacer un regalo que le va a gustar"
"Now I´m going to give you a present you are going to like"

"¿Quién es?"
"Who is it?"

"Mi abuela"
"My grandmother"

"¿Hace mucho que no le ves?"
"You haven´t seen him for a long time?"

"Muchísimo. Hace años que no lo veo"
"A long time. I haven´t seen him in years"

"¿Te gustaría que fuese éste tu regalo de Navidad?"
"Would you like this to be your Christmas present?"

"¿Está aquí?"
"Is she here?"

"Vamos a quitar esto"
"Let´s take this off"

"Aquí tienes tu regalo de Navidad"
"Here you have your Christmas present"
