Ayer miré una película francesa sobre una familia de sordomudos. El único miembro de la familia que puede hablar es la hija, Paula, que tiene una voz preciosa y sabe cantar muy bien.
Yesterday I watched a French film about a deaf family. The only member of the family that can talk is the daughter, Paula, who has a beautiful voice and can sing very well.

La película tiene subtítulos en inglés. Al final, la protagonista, Paula, tiene una audición para una escuela prestigiosa de París y canta una canción. La letra es bonita pero no muy especial.
The film has subtitles in English. At the end, the protagonist, Paula, has an audition for a prestigious school in Paris and she sings a song. The lyrics are nice but not very special.

Sin embargo, hoy he encontrado el clip de la canción final con subtítulos en español. La diferencia es notable.
However, today I found the clip of the end with subtitles in Spanish. The difference is notable.

El español y el francés son lenguas hermanas que vienen del latín.
Spanish and French are sister languages that come from Latin.

La traducción al español (en este clip) es más fiel al original que la inglesa. Quizá es porque soy española y tengo una reacción más inmediata cuando puedo seguir la letra perfectamente pero hay una explicación linguística también.
The translation into Spanish (in this clip) is more faithful to the original than the English one. Maybe it´s because I´m Spanish and I have a more immediate reaction when I can follow the lyrics perfectly but there is a linguistic explanation too.

La gramática y la estrucutra de estas dos lenguas tienen muchas cosas en común.
The grammar and the structure of these two languages have many things in common.

Por eso, hablar español también puede ayudarte a entender mejor canciones en otras lenguas latinas.
Therefore, speaking Spanish can also help you to understand songs in other Latin languages better.

He visto La Traviatta en Royal Opera House y también he visto algunas de las arias en you tube, traduccidas al francés. La sensación que tengo al escuchar las dos óperas es diferente porque la traducción del italiano al francés es más cercana al español y más fiel al original. La poesía es menos cursi, menos abrupta; más bonita.
I have seen La Traviatta in Royal Opera House and I have also seen some of the arias on you tube, translated into French. The sensation I get when listening to the two versions is different because the translation from Italian to French is closer to the Spanish and more faithful to the original. The poetry is less cheesy, less abrupt; more beautiful.
