Julieta
I watched this film in the cinema with a friend. She liked it a lot. I found it different to the previous films I liked so much (The flower of my secret, All about my mother and Volver). Almodovar’s films are bizarre, surreal and exuberant. There are shocking and subversive themes but also admirable ones like women as strong and independent beings and the relationship mother-daughter.
Julieta, for me, is not one of Almodovar’s best films but some recurrent themes remain strong. I thought the scene in which Julieta and her mother share a moment of lucidity sad and beautiful.
The film is available on BBC iplayer for about 26 days.
